COMMUNITY

Playing a positive part in our community, and the wider world, is really important to us here at The Pink House Bude. Through supporting local enterprises and businesses, and connecting with our community, we are always striving to be a better business.

We know that tourism can be an emotive subject, particularly across the Southwest of England, where villages and towns have such a rich history and strong sense of community. Bude has been a popular resort town since the Victorian era, when the new railway brought in visitors for fresh sea air and days spent in colourful beach huts.

Today Bude, like many places in the UK, faces issues with rising house prices and shortages due to its popularity. We are conscious of this, and we want to fill the house with wonderful guests for as much of the year as we can, ensuring that we actively contribute to the economy. We always work with and buy from local businesses, and proudly support two local social enterprises - the eternally inspiring The Pearl Exchange and beautiful Bude Sea Pool.

GREEN BUDE

Bude is striving to be one of the greenest towns in the UK, and has received a £2m grant to fight the climate threat. We are constantly evaluating how The Pink House can positively contribute to this effort, from measuring our carbon - balancing our energy usage with the World Land Trust, providing a EV charger on our driveway and taking recycling seriously, to buying from sustainable suppliers to provide our guests with products we love, such as Ecover re-fillable soaps and Who Gives A Crap toilet paper. We hope that we might even inspire some changes when our guests go home.

The Pearl Exchange

The Pearl Exchange is an award-winning charity located in the centre of Bude. Their incredible team support young adults through creative arts - from making and creating, to learning new skills, to music and events - alongside mental health support through free counselling. We have made an annual donation to support the project (in 2023 we have supported 60 hours of counselling for young people, in 2024 donated towards refurbishing their new home and hosted the team) and we want to support them in any way we can!

BUDE SEA POOL

Built in the golden age of the lido, Bude Sea Pool is nestled into the cliffs of Summerleaze Beach. Half man-made, half natural, the pool is spectacular at high-tide when the Atlantic waves wash over its walls – a perfect spot for cold-water swimming and a secret launch point for surfers paddling out into the bay. During the summer, the shallows provide a safe paddling spot for younger visitors. We’re proud to be gold sponsors of the Sea Pool - a registered charity - contributing in a small way to the continued running and maintenance of such a wonderful local amenity.
